That marks the ninth consecutive rate hike since March 2022 and takes the Fed Funds Rate to 4.75% - 5.00%.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Understanding the Fed\u2019s latest rate decision in under 60 seconds<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Despite embarking on one of the most aggressive rate hike cycles in over 40-years, the Fed said that \u2018The process of getting inflation back down to 2% has a long way to go and is likely to be bumpy.\u2019<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the wake of Silicon Valley Bank\u2019s collapse and concerns over the fragility of the global banking system, the Fed maintains that \u2018The U.S. banking system is sound and resilient.\u2019<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The severity of the impact that such banking issues will have on economic activity and inflation however was described as \u2018uncertain\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Looking forward, the Fed said that further rate increases \u2018may be appropriate\u2019 to achieve its goal of returning inflation to 2%.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Fed said that it remains \u2018highly attentive to inflation risks\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While US inflation has indeed come down in 2023, it remains well above the Fed\u2019s target, with the CPI reading for the 12-months to February coming in at 6.0%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Housing was the primary driver of that CPI print, with food, recreation, household furniture, and operations contributing to a lesser extent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>US Inflation data for March 2023 will be released on 12 April.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-b9a2fa89 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.syfe.com\/au\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/SYFE50_landscape-1024x536.png \" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 150px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.syfe.com\/au\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/SYFE50_landscape-1024x536.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"uag-image-2681\" width=\"1024\" height=\"536\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><sub>This article\/webinar is brought to you by Syfe Australia Pty Ltd, AFS representative number 001295306 representing Sanlam Private Wealth Pty Ltd (AFSL 337927).
