For Singapore investors, this comes down to three options: SGX-listed ETFs (paid in SGD, tax-free, CPF/SRS-friendly), US-listed ETFs (the widest range, but a 30% dividend withholding tax), and Ireland-domiciled UCITS ETFs (a lower 15% withholding, which is why many long-term investors prefer them).

What is a dividend ETF?

A dividend ETF is an exchange-traded fund that holds a basket of income-producing securities — high-dividend shares, REITs, or bonds — and distributes the income it collects to unit-holders. Instead of researching and buying multiple individual dividend stocks, you buy one fund that does it for you, with built-in diversification and a published expense ratio.

If you are new to funds in general, our practical guide to ETF investing in Singapore will get you started; then, come back here for the income-focused picks.

Distribution yield vs dividend yield

These terms are used loosely, so it helps to be precise. Dividend yield usually refers to the trailing dividends of the underlying holdings. Distribution yield is what the ETF actually pays out over a period, annualised — this is the figure that lands in your account and the one to compare across funds. A US-listed fund may also quote a 30-day SEC yield, a standardised regulatory measure. When comparing ETFs, compare like with like, and check whether a high yield is being paid partly out of capital.

How to choose a dividend ETF

1. Distribution yield — and its sustainability

A high yield is attractive, but an unusually high one can be a yield trap — a distribution the fund cannot sustain, often flagged by a falling unit price and payouts funded from capital. Always check the ETF’s payout history and whether income comes from genuine dividends.

Dividend Yield = Annual Dividends Per Share / Price Per Share

2. Total expense ratio (TER)

The total expense ratio is deducted from returns every year. SGX REIT ETFs typically run ~0.5–0.6%; US index dividend ETFs can be as low as 0.04–0.08%; UCITS equivalents ~0.25–0.45%. Small differences compound over decades.

3. Assets under management (AUM) & liquidity

Larger funds are generally more liquid, with tighter bid-ask spreads, and less likely to close. A very small fund can also carry a higher effective TER because fixed costs are spread over fewer assets.

4. Currency & hedging

SGX-listed SGD ETFs remove currency conversion. US and global ETFs introduce USD exposure; some UCITS or managed products are SGD-hedged to stabilize payouts. Decide whether currency exposure is .

5. Distribution frequency & reinvestment

Payouts can be monthly, quarterly or semi-annual. If you are compounding rather than spending the income, look for automatic dividend reinvestment plans (DRIPs) or an accumulating share class. If you need regular cash flow, you might want to favour monthly or quarterly distributors.

6. Index methodology

Some ETFs simply weight by market cap; others apply a quality or yield-focus screen (for example, Lion-Phillip’s three-factor screen or SCHD’s dividend-quality filter). Methodology drives both the yield and the risk profile.

Best SGX-listed dividend ETFs in Singapore

These ETFs trade in SGD on the Singapore Exchange, pay tax-free distributions to Singapore individuals, and are SRS-eligible. Ireland-domiciled UCITS ETFs are a common compromise for global exposure at 15% withholding.

Distribution yield or dividend yield — what should I compare?

Compare distribution yield, which is what the ETF actually pays out (annualised). Compare like with like across the funds you are considering.

Can I buy dividend ETFs with CPF or SRS?

Some can. The STI ETFs (ES3, G3B) and the ABF Singapore Bond Index Fund (A35) are CPFIS-eligible, and SRS can be used for SGX-listed ETFs. Check each fund’s current eligibility before investing.

How much do I need to earn a set monthly income?

It depends on yield. As a rough guide, a 5% net yield needs about S$240,000 to generate S$1,000 a month; a 4% yield needs about S$300,000. Yields and payouts vary, so treat these as illustrations, not promises.

Read More:

Guide to Investing in Dividend ETFs in Singapore and How to Choose Them

Don’t (Just) Hug the Index: Three Reasons to Go Beyond Passive ETFs

Beyond “ETF and Chill”: Rethinking Investment Strategy in 2026

ETF vs Stock in Singapore: Which Should You Buy?

Best S&P 500 ETFs Comparison: Which One Should You Buy – VOO, SPY, IVV, or SPLG?

CSPX vs VWRA vs IWDA vs SPYL vs VUAA: Which UCITS ETFs to Invest In?

Compare the best dividend ETFs for Singapore investors in 2026 — SGX, US and Ireland-domiciled (UCITS) picks, with yields, fees and withholding tax explained.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

16,287
1301,881,209,1076,954,203
post-15275","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-grow-wealth","category-investing-basics","tag-dividend-etf","tag-dividend-investing","tag-etfs","tag-investing-basics","tag-investment-strategy","tag-passive-income

Best Dividend ETFs in Singapore (2026): REIT, Equity &
