CarMax, Inc.is a holding company, which engages in the retail sale of used vehicles and wholesale vehicle sales. It operates through the following segments: CarMax Sales Operations, and CarMax Auto Finance (CAF) segments. The CarMax Sales Operations segment consists of retail sales of used vehicles, wholesale vehicle sales, related products and services, vehicle repair services, and financing arrangements. The CAF segment consists of its finance operation, which provides financing to customers purchasing retail vehicles from CarMax. The company was founded by Richard L. Sharp and William Austin Ligon in 1993 and is headquartered in Richmond, VA.
