Market Overview
August delivered a broad-based rally and fresh record highs: the S&P 500 rose +2.6% and the Nasdaq surged +3.9% — both indices’ first monthly gains since May — as AI-linked names roared back, with the S&P tech sector up more than 6% and Nvidia, Microsoft and Micron all posting double-digit gains. The S&P notched a fresh all-time high on 13 August, and the Dow extended its win streak to a fifth straight positive month, itself hitting a record along the way, up +1.3% for the month.
Behind the rally, newly appointed Fed Chair Kevin Warsh struck a hawkish tone in his first keynote at Jackson Hole on 28 August, saying recent cooler inflation prints “do not tell me that underlying trends have meaningfully improved” and that the Fed’s 2% PCE target remains “a firm, fixed target.” He described financial conditions as not restrictive — leaving the door open to a further hike — while striking a bullish tone on growth; markets sold off into the close that day as the hawkish undertone sank in.
On the final trading day of the month, the US struck Iranian military sites in the Strait of Hormuz — its first such action in a month — sending oil prices up more than 3%, and dragging US equities modestly lower into the close. Long-term Treasury yields stayed elevated through August as markets digested Warsh’s hawkish remarks, keeping pressure on rate-sensitive fixed income assets even as equities rallied. Attention now turns to the Fed’s 16–17 September meeting, where futures markets are pricing in a meaningfully higher chance of a hike.
Income+ Performance
Income+ remains one of Syfe’s most popular portfolios, offering long-term investors a targeted 6.0%–10.0% p.a. dividend yield with a 100% distribution track record since inception. Through active management across our selected best-in-class funds, Income+ is built to capture upside like August’s tech-driven rally while continuing to generate reliable monthly income.
| INCOME+ PURE 6.55% Distribution yield | INCOME+ ENHANCE 7.97% Distribution yield | INCOME+ MAX 11.27% Distribution yield |
| Portfolio | August Return | 2026 YTD Return | Distribution Yield (p.a.) |
| Income+ Pure | +0.45% | 1.66% | 6.55% |
| Income+ Enhance | +1.06% | 4.89% | 7.97% |
| Income+ Max | +3.59% | 4.25% | 11.27% |
Pure
Income+ Pure was the most modest gainer in August, adding +0.45% as its 100% fixed income allocation delivered steady, lower-volatility returns while equity markets rallied around it. Short-duration holdings continued to limit sensitivity to the elevated long-end Treasury yields seen through the month, while the portfolio’s investment-grade credit sleeve delivered stable coupon income. Pure met its scheduled monthly distribution in full — a steady, capital-preservation-oriented outcome consistent with its low-to-medium risk mandate.
Enhance
Income+ Enhance participated in the August rally, gaining +1.06% as its multi-asset positioning captured part of the equity upside, while its fixed income sleeve continued to provide steady coupon income alongside the equity contribution. The portfolio’s flexible allocation approach let it benefit from August’s tech-led rally. Enhance comfortably met its target distribution yield for the month.
Max
Income+ Max was the standout performer in August, rising +3.59% as its equity-linked, option-income holdings captured much of the AI-driven tech rally. The covered-call overlay converted a portion of the equity upside into distributable income rather than pure capital gain, while the portfolio’s multi-sector fixed income and gold income sleeves added further diversification. Max delivered on its core objective of consistent income generation, maintaining its full distribution schedule.

Looking Ahead
As markets head into the final stretch of 2026, the macro backdrop for income investors carries both opportunity and risk following August’s rally and the Fed’s hawkish signals.
Warsh’s hawkish Jackson Hole keynote and the late-month escalation in the Strait of Hormuz kept markets on edge even as major indices notched fresh records. The Fed’s 16–17 September meeting will be the next real test of whether that hawkish tone translates into action — a further hike would likely pressure rate-sensitive fixed income assets, while a pause would ease pressure on yields.
Geopolitical risk also remains elevated, with the Iran conflict a live wildcard for oil prices and, by extension, inflation expectations — further escalation would likely widen credit spreads and introduce volatility across fixed income assets, while de-escalation would support the more constructive backdrop.
Even so, the fundamental case for income investing remains intact: yields stay elevated, credit fundamentals remain resilient, and a disciplined, diversified income approach continues to make sense heading into a data-dependent final stretch of the year.
