At the beginning of 2026, the market anticipated that the US would embark on a rate-cutting cycle. However, by July, driven by persistent inflation, geopolitical tensions (such as the situation in Iran), and the newly appointed Federal Reserve Chair taking office, expectations for rate cuts cooled significantly — and on 16 September the Fed delivered a 25-basis-point hike, lifting the federal funds rate to 3.75%–4.00%, its first increase since 2023. At its 27–28 October meeting the Fed then held the target range at 3.75%–4.00%, noting that inflation remains elevated and that it may need more time to assess incoming data; the HKMA kept the Base Rate at 4.25% on 29 October, in line with market expectations. Under the Linked Exchange Rate System, Hong Kong’s interest rates follow US dollar trends over the long term, and HKD time deposit rates have continued to edge up at many Hong Kong banks into November, particularly at the 3-month tenor.
Syfe’s “Cash+ Fixed”—settled in HKD—invests in underlying assets such as time deposits. Its yields are fixed in nature, similar to traditional time deposits, and carry no management fees. Syfe offers 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month tenors with fixed yields of 2.5%, 2.9%, 3.15%, and 3.68% respectively, which compare favourably with general bank deposits, particularly at longer tenors. More importantly, Cash+ Fixed has no minimum investment amount, making it an ideal choice for small-sum investors and anyone seeking flexible capital allocation.

Best 1-Month HKD Time Deposit Rate
Banks in Hong Kong remain generally unaggressive regarding 1-month HKD terms, and some institutions do not even offer this option. Among traditional banks, Nanyang Commercial Bank, DBS (up from 2.00%) and Bank of Communications (Hong Kong) (minimum deposit HKD 1,000,000) now share the highest 1-month rate at 2.50%, followed by CCB Asia at 2.25%, provided that customers open the account via online or mobile banking.
Meanwhile, Syfe’s 1-month HKD Cash+ Fixed service delivers a fixed yield of 2.50% with no minimum deposit requirement, making it highly competitive compared to standard bank offerings.
Best 3-Month HKD Time Deposit Rate
The current “ceiling” for the 3-month HKD tenor is Nanyang Commercial Bank at 3.15% (minimum deposit HKD 10,000), narrowly ahead of Bank of Communications (Hong Kong) at 3.10% (minimum deposit HKD 1,000,000). OCBC Wing Hang’s Premier Banking tier offers 3.05% for balances of HKD 100,000 or above, while ICBC (Asia) and CCB Asia offer 3.00% and Shanghai Commercial Bank offers 2.83% for accounts opened via personal online or mobile banking.
In the digital banking sector, Fusion Bank (as of 2 October), Public Bank (Hong Kong) and Fubon Bank (minimum deposit HKD 500,000) lead their peers at 2.90%, while the three note-issuing giants (HSBC, BOCHK, and Standard Chartered) remain clustered around the 2.40% level. Syfe’s 3-month HKD Cash+ Fixed service provides a fixed yield of 2.90% with no minimum deposit requirement.
Best 6-Month HKD Time Deposit Rate
As of early November 2026, major banks offer 6-month HKD rates ranging between 2.20% and 2.40%. Among other traditional banks, Bank of East Asia (3.20%/3.15% for new/existing funds) and Nanyang Commercial Bank (3.20%) lead, followed by ICBC (Asia) and OCBC Wing Hang’s Premier Banking tier at 3.10%, Shanghai Commercial Bank at 3.03% and CCB Asia at 3.00% — all with comparatively low minimum deposit thresholds. DBS’s 6-month rate has edged up to 2.75%, with its minimum deposit at HKD 50,000.
Syfe’s 6-month HKD Cash+ Fixed service offers a fixed yield of 3.15% with no minimum deposit requirement, close to the leading bank rates without their minimum thresholds.
Best 12-Month HKD Time Deposit Rate
For investors looking to lock in longer terms, not all large banks offer a 12-month HKD option via online or mobile banking. Currently, OCBC Wing Hang’s Premier Banking tier and Nanyang Commercial Bank lead the 1-year segment at 3.40% (minimum deposit HKD 100,000 and HKD 10,000 respectively), ahead of Shanghai Commercial Bank at 3.33%, Fubon Bank at 3.30% (minimum deposit HKD 500,000 to below HKD 1,000,000), Public Bank at 3.25%, and ICBC (Asia), Mox Bank and Bank of East Asia (3.20%/3.15%) at 3.20%. In comparison, Syfe’s 12-month HKD Cash+ Fixed service delivers a market-leading fixed yield of up to 3.68% with no minimum deposit threshold, making it highly compelling for investors seeking to lock in peak 1-year yields.
Syfe Cash+ Fixed (HKD): A Strong Alternative
Syfe’s Cash+ Fixed (HKD) is an investment service that places funds into time deposits with fixed yields of 2.5% p.a. (1 month), 2.9% p.a. (3 months), 3.15% p.a. (6 months), and 3.68% p.a. (12 months). On the latest data, these rates compare favourably with many traditional bank offers on a like-for-like basis, especially once minimum deposit thresholds are taken into account. With no minimum investment, no management fees, and flexible tenors, it remains well positioned for both small and large savers seeking predictable HKD yields.
Unlike traditional banks, Cash+ Fixed (HKD) offers these unique advantages:
- Higher return potential: Fixed yields higher than most bank time deposits in the current market
- No investment threshold: No minimum investment amount, unlike banks requiring HK$10,000-100,000
- Flexible access: More flexible terms and withdrawal options compared to traditional time deposits
- User-friendly platform: Easily invest, monitor, and manage funds through the Syfe mobile application
- No hidden fees: Transparent fee structure with no management fees
