You wanted higher payouts and growth. Meet Income+ Max.

We asked investors what matters most in an income portfolio. Here’s what they told us, and how it shaped Income+ Max, which targets 8-10% p.a. in monthly payouts.

What do investors really want from an income portfolio?

We asked over 500 Syfe users and investors outside Syfe what matters most when choosing an income-focused portfolio. The answer was clear: income matters, but it isn’t the only thing investors are looking for.

A higher target payout came out on top, while potential capital growth was also a major consideration. And when it comes to receiving that income, most Syfe users said they would rather put their monthly payouts back to work than spend them.

Those insights helped shape Income+ Max, Syfe’s newly launched managed portfolio, designed for investors who look to maximise their monthly income while keeping growth potential. With 8–10% p.a. target monthly payouts, Income+ Max brings together complementary income strategies across equities, fixed income and gold, with the flexibility to automatically reinvest payouts or take them as income.

What investors told us about income

To understand what investors actually want from an income portfolio, we surveyed both Syfe users and people who don’t currently use Syfe.

Four key themes stood out.

High target payout is the strongest driver of appeal

45% of Syfe users surveyed selected the 8–10% p.a. target payout as the most appealing benefit, nearly twice as many as the next most-selected benefit. This was also the leading choice among respondents outside Syfe, at 28%.

This shows that investors want their money to generate meaningful income, not simply sit on the sidelines.

Most users want their payouts automatically reinvested

Income doesn’t necessarily mean investors want to spend the money immediately.

In fact, 66% of Syfe users said they would reinvest their monthly payouts, making it the most popular choice at 5.5 times the next most-selected use.

That points to an important distinction between generating income and taking income. During the wealth-building stage, automatically reinvesting payouts can put that money back to work, potentially helping investors compound their holdings over time.

Growth potential broadens the product’s appeal

Investors also don’t want to sacrifice growth entirely in exchange for income.

Potential capital growth ranked second among both audiences, selected by 24% of Syfe users and 24% of people outside Syfe.

In other words, an income portfolio needs to do more than generate regular payouts. Investors also want the potential for their underlying portfolio to grow over time.

Transparency around payouts and risk builds trust

Among Syfe users, 33% selected a clear payout breakdown, while 29% chose historical performance and drawdown data as appealing features. For respondents outside Syfe, product data was even more important: 84% preferred product information over expert or creator endorsements.

This reinforces the importance of giving investors visibility into where their income comes from, how a portfolio has performed historically and what risks they may be taking.

What is Income+ Max

Income+ Max is Syfe’s newly launched managed portfolio for investors looking to generate higher levels of income while retaining capital growth potential.

Income+ Max targets 8–10% p.a. in regular monthly payouts, giving you the potential to turn your portfolio into a recurring source of income. Investors can also choose to automatically reinvest their monthly payouts in USD, with no lock-in, while continuing to pursue long-term capital growth. When the time comes to use the income, investors can switch to receiving the payouts.

This flexibility means the same portfolio can serve different purposes at different stages of your investing journey.

The portfolio provides exposure across equities, fixed income and gold, combining complementary income strategies designed to pursue higher payouts across different market conditions. The aim is to diversify the sources of potential income and returns rather than relying on a single asset class. Different assets can behave differently across market environments, giving the portfolio multiple ways to pursue its income and growth objectives.

Note that diversification doesn’t eliminate investment risk, and the value of investments can rise or fall.

How Income+ Max fits into your portfolio

Building wealth and generating income don’t have to be separate goals, especially if you’re still in the prime of your career (30s and 40s).

You may still be growing your portfolio for the long term while also wanting your investments to provide a regular stream of cash for today’s needs.

That’s where an income-focused portfolio can play a role alongside your other investments. For example, you might use growth-oriented investments to build your wealth over time, while allocating a portion of your portfolio to income-generating investments for more regular cash flow.

What you do with those payouts can also change as your priorities evolve. If you’re still focused on growing your wealth, you could reinvest your monthly payouts to put them back to work and compound over time. But if you have upcoming expenses or simply want more cash flow from your investments, you could choose to take the payouts as income instead.

Ultimately, the right mix will depend on your goals, time horizon, current needs, and risk tolerance. Read our guide on accumulation vs income portfolios to understand how each approach could fit into your overall investment strategy.

Overview of Syfe’s Income+ suite

Syfe’s Income+ suite is designed to support different income goals, time horizons and risk appetites. Whether you’re prioritising capital preservation, looking for a balance between income and growth, or seeking higher target payouts with greater exposure to market risk, there’s an option to consider.

Which Income+ portfolio is right for you?

The right choice depends on what you want your portfolio to do, when you expect to need the money, and how comfortable you are with market volatility.

If steady income is your main priority, Income+ Preserve may be the more suitable option. If you want a balance between income and growth, Income+ Enhance may fit your objectives. If you’re investing for the longer term and are willing to accept more risk in pursuit of higher target payouts, Income+ Max may be worth considering.

You can also choose to reinvest your monthly payouts while you’re still building wealth, then switch to receiving them as income when your needs change.

Before investing, consider your financial goals, investment time horizon and risk tolerance. The value of investments can rise or fall, and past performance is not indicative of future results.

Your income, your way

Our survey showed that investors don’t see income and growth as mutually exclusive.

They want meaningful payouts, but they also want their investments to have the potential to grow. And while some investors may want to spend their income today, many would rather reinvest it and keep building for tomorrow.

That’s the thinking behind Income+ Max: higher target payouts, growth potential and the flexibility to decide what happens to your income next.
